Kali Music Series - Goddess Kali, Initiator Of The Erotic Energies

By Hans Havasi

Goddess Kali, First Of The Mahavidya

Kali is the first in line of the fascinating Tantric pantheon of wisdom Goddesses, the MahaVidya. She has black skin, many arms, glaring eyes, wears a necklace of severed heads and dances on the body of Shiva (the masculine principle of the universe). Her tongue hangs out of her mouth dripping blood while laughing loudly at the attachment of humans. A terrifying sight indeed.

There exists a lot of symbolism in this gruesome iconography. It is a picture of our coming death and of our mortality. The symbolism also shows the transcendent nature of the masculine principle (symbolized by the dead Shiva upon who she dances) and the active chaotic nature of the feminine principle (Kali herself). Another aspect of this symbolism is Kali as wild, erotic energy. It is this aspect we shall touch upon in this article.

Goddess Kali - Her Erotic Nature

These terrifying sides of Kali hide one great truth about her. Kali is raw and dangerous sexual energy and this is why we see her as being so terrible. If we cannot control the sexual energy we end up dead like Lord Shiva lying at her feet. If we can control her she becomes our biggest ally, friend and mother. A woman who starts a serious worship of the great Kali will start to incorporate her qualities in her being, she will become powerful and in touch with her sexual energy and will terrify those who are not in touch with their sexual energy. But she will help and guide those who dare to look into her eyes.

The egoistic mind, which is stiff and afraid, fears such a female expansive energy. Through the ages men have feared these strong displays of femininity and her energy which has been repressed through centuries. It is in fact a fear of life energy itself which is in itself erotic, expansive and feminine. As we fear the fully awakened woman (in tantra referred to as Shakti) we fear life itself.

Kali is portrayed as so terrifying to mock this huge fear we have inside of life.

Goddess Kali And Kundalini

In the tantric tradition it is stated that our spiritual evolution commences with a deep awakening of our sexual energy. This energy is called Kundalini and is stored at the base of the spine. When we succeed to awaken this energy it will start to dance up our spine transmuting into finer types of energy as it goes upward finally meeting the pure consciousness of lord Shiva at the top of the head.

Like a snake tamer plays the flute and his snake dances for him, our kundalini will dance for us when we awaken her through intense spiritual practice.

Goddess Kali and rituals in Tantra

Kali can be invoked through meditation with her mantra (which should be given to the adept by a tantric master) or can also be invoked through the continual gazing upon her yantra (please see the picture). Meditation upon yantras is a very powerful tool to calm down the mind and to enter into a process of resonance with the Goddess.

The most powerful way to worship Kali is through Tantric erotic ritual. These rituals start with the man worshipping the woman as being the great Goddess herself. Then follows the foreplay and lovemaking acts. After this the man and woman separate and each make a sadhana (spiritual practice) dedicated to the Goddess. This sadhana may consist of Asanas (yoga postures), Pranayamas (breathing exercises) and meditations.

If done correctly and at the right moments, these rituals will create deep processes of transformation in the hearts of the two lovers. - 18424

Do Legal Music Downloads Really Exist?

By Katheryn Lucas

Luckily, finding legal music downloads on the Internet is nothing like as difficult as it used to be. Finally, the music companies have started getting their act together and allowing people to download music of the Internet for a modest fee. This has a number of advantages associated with it.

It cannot be stressed enough that finding an downloading the legal music is of course a criminal offence and you could get caught and could get into quite a lot of trouble. What's more, you are leaving yourself open to getting viruses on your computer since many of the uses of such sites to upload material to it deliberately lace their software with malicious viruses.

This is great because you won't have to buy an entire album which you don't want any way. In fact, many people use their computers as their home entertainment systems these days so having to buy multiple CDs can be very inconvenient. Although of course you can playback the CD in the computer, this in itself is not very convenient since you may well want to use the drive for something else.

Downloading music allows you to play it in your favourite media player and of course you can copy the music to a flash drive and play it on another computer or use it on your portable media player. Not only this, then you don't have to worry about ripping your CDs into MP3 format.

Because you only download songs you actually want, it also works out a lot cheaper as well. Though some walk in retailers do actually allow you to do this, it is very inconvenient for many people for obvious reasons. On the Internet, you can choose exactly the songs you want and download them all at once or just download one at a time when you decide you want a specific song.

It certainly is a blessing and finally the music industry has got its act together and started providing the services, since before it was one of the main reasons than many people were turning to piracy, simply for the convenience factor.

The beauty of being able to meet you and albums as great as well. There is nothing more frustrating than when you have to spend a whole load of money on something you don't want just because there are one or two songs on the album that you like.

However, one of the complaints that people often have about MP3 is that it is lower quality than CD recordings. While this is true, the average user won't notice much difference as files that you download tend to be high quality at the sacrifice of more file space.

However, there are various other options and many countries in the world have legal music download resources available so you are not only limited to music from your own country in most cases. All you need is a reasonably fast Internet connection, for credit card and a bit of money to spend. You will be able to build up your music collection much faster, cheaper and what's more, you will be able to have exactly what you want and no extra files that you aren't interested in. - 18424
