Information On The Fender Strat Guitar

By Andrew Nelly

Throughout the history of guitars, since it's birth as an instrument, there have been several models and types that have made an impact. Not only just because of the way that the guitar has been built or that they feature the recent and most innovative designs and materials, but that they have been strummed by the best guitarists of all time.

Most likely, the most widely known guitar would be the Fender Stratocaster. First made by its creator, Leo Fender, founder of the famous Fender Guitar company back in the fifties, the Stratocaster or Fender Strat as it is also called, has taken it's place amongst the legends of rock. Now having a enthusiastic following from new players and guitar collectors alike, the Strat still empowers the best of the current slew of musical groups.

The 1957 model of the Fender Stratocaster is probably considered to be the best and most collectable of the near 60 year run classic design. The 57 model features the famous 2 tone sun burst design, usually red and orange or yellow fading to black and can be seen being used by guitar greats such as Jimi Hendrix, Metallica and Led Zeppelin during the recent years. After it's inception all those years ago, the Strat was primarily used for playing blues style music until the likes of Jimi Hendrix blasted it into another world and started pushing the guitar and music to it's limits and crashing into a new era. Jimi was one of many who was able to combine their talents with the Fender technicians and the team behind the Fender Custom Factory to make his own white signature model of Fender Strat. Leo Fender was famous for encouraging the worlds best guitarists to work along side them to not only design their own personally designed named models, but also re-evolve their existing designs through experimentation and customization.

The Fender Stratocaster has been used on a wide variety of different music styles over the years from blues, rock, jazz and swing. It's clean and clear sound allows the guitar player have the freedom to make any sound and type of music accessible and the perfect build quality of each Fender Strat is perfect. The body of the strat is constructed from alder wood and the neck is made from maple wood with a rose wood fretboard. The guitar contains a set of 3 single coil pickups which aids the the clean and pure sound. There is a five way selector switch that allows you to alter various combinations of the guitar pickups to produce different tones and a set of volume and tone controls.

The Strat is certainly one of the guitars that will go down in the annuls of time as being an almost perfect and extremely versatile instrument that had a hand in helping change the face of rock and roll and music made by guitars as we know it today. I am sure that Leo Fender was unaware that that when he first made the Strat in 1950, he would also be creating a cult and a legacy that will span well over 100 years. - 18424

Flying V - Gibsons Triumph

By Aaron Shanty

If you think "rock guitar" you might begin to imagine a long haired rocker, hunched over his Gibson Flying V Guitar, pushing out an ear bleeding solo whilst fireworks shoot off all around him. This is the image of heavy rock!

The Gibson Flying V is certainly one of the rock guitars that will go down in history as being one of the most unique designs ever. Originally built and launched by the guitar company back in 1958 and then relaunched in 1967, the mahogany bodied flying V took the world of rock by storm.

The models that were created on and around 1967 are considered to be the classic design and are the most collectible amongst vintage guitar collectors. This older design is known as the V Factor rather than the flying V. Gibson does still make the guitar under the name of Tribal V and they also make a flying V bass guitar too!

The V has been used by so many different rock gods in its time that it is hard to think of just one performer who stands out from the crowd. The Foo Fighters, ZZ Top, Marc Bolan and T-Rex used the flying V design and Jimi Hendrix loved the model so much he even worked with the Gibson people to make his own signature model, designing and making the paisley image that adorns the guitar himself.

If you were to go out and buy a brand new model today, the Tribal V would be the one to look for. Gibson have only manufactured this as a limited edition run of 350 units, so finding one may be difficult. Not impossible though if you check out good local shops and places like eBay. If you want the real deal, you will be looking for the older models from the late 1960s and early 1970s, when the V was at the height of its popularity.

The Gibson Tribal V is a newer, more up to date version of the older model with all new components and electronics. The modern, youth tribal tattoo markings and graphics make it stand out from the crowd too.

There have been other makers of the V style guitar through the years. Ibanez for one copied the look and design when they released their own version. Rumor has it that Gibson had to step in with their lawyers to prevent these guitars from being made and sold, such was the strength and quality of the copiers design.

The Flying V certainly has made its mark on the ethos and mythology of rock music and guitar based rock. Its image is immediately recognizable and the Gibson quality, design and perfection make the guitar one of the best rock guitars ever. - 18424
