Good Sam: Virtually complete misfire, regardless of cast and director. Cooper is an incurable good guy in this inanimate comedy. Cast includes Gary Cooper, Ann Sheridan, Ray Collins, Edmund Lowe, Joan Lorring, and Ruth Roman. (113 minutes, 1948)
The Clown: Emotional redo of The Winner in regards to a cleaned-up, self-hating comic with a committed child who looks out for him. Skelton's good in a rare dramatic role. Considine is so excellent he defeats some of the hokiness of script. Charles Bronson has a tiny role in dice game scene. Cast includes Red Skelton, Tim Considine, Jane Greer, Loring Smith, and Philip Ober. (91 minutes, 1953)
Prince of Darkness: The anti-Christ entombs the evil child of Satan in a cannister of a forgotten about L.A. temple. It's up to pastor Pleasence and the gradstudents of Prof Wong to tidy up the mess. They must stop the religious sect attempting to free this child named the "Brotherhood of Rest." Cast includes Donald Pleasence, Lisa Blount, Jameson Parker, Victor Wong, Dennis Dun, Susan Blanchard, Anne Howard and Alice Cooper Panavision. R (110 minutes, 1987)
The Dunwich Horror: Adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft's tale in regards to wizard Stockwell's malevolent plans for lady friend Dee. The movie is often powerful, although the ending spoils the entire film. Cast includes Sandra Dee, Dean Stockwell, Ed Begley, Sam Jaffe, Lloyd Bochner, Joanna Moore, and Talia Coppola. Play Time: Hulot (Tati) drifts through an unrecognizable modern Paris of steel and glass skyscrapers. Scene and noise gags abound in this superbly created film. The Proposal: Bulky soap opera set in the 1930s gives Branagh a thankless role as a minister with more ties than one might ever envision to prosperous Boston bigwig. The Sugarland Express: Exact amusement, based on truth, in regards to a youthful couple escaping to Sugarland, Texas, to recover their child (whom they decline to give up for adoption), and the cops who chase them all the way through Texas. A Guy Namend Joe: Excellent cast flounders in lazy fantasy in reference to WW2 guide Tracy returning to the planet to give youthful serviceman Johnson a hand in his romance with Tracy's lady friend Dunne.
