Making Peace In The World

By Liz Thompson

James Twyman, the Peace Troubadour, got his nickname because of his peacemaking efforts around the world. He is a talented man who uses his abilities to unite people of all faiths through writing, film, and music.

James music has been enjoyed at the Pentagon, the United Nations, the US Capitol, and at projects like The Cloth of Many Colors. James has also ventured into hostile territories to spread his musical peace. Millions have heard him in Iraq, Ireland, South Africa, Bosnia, and Serbia.

James Twymans most popular books are Emissary of Light, Emissary of Love, and the most recent one, The Moses Code. The Moses Code is scheduled for release soon in a film version, joining his other films, including the award-winning Indigo.

James Twyman is the president of the Beloved Community. It is an interreligious organization that boasts 400 peace ministers from around the world. He is also the founder of the Seminary of Spiritual Peacemaking.

Raised Catholic, James decided at the age of 18 to become a Franciscan. It was in 1986 that James learned about a spiritual meeting in Assisi. There, religious leaders like the Pope and the Dalai Lama came together to pray for peace. In all, twelve religions were represented.

The meeting in Assisi would prove to be a pivotal point in James Twymans life. People of different backgrounds usually meet to show their differences. In this case, he saw people from many faiths coming together for a united purpose " prayers for peace.

James received a copy of the twelve Assisi prayers from a friend in 1994. They sat in a desk drawer for a week before he read them. As he read the first, he heard music playing. It was coming from his own mind, but it was as clear as if there were a radio in the room.

It took James Twyman only an hour to set all twelve prayers to music. James has many talents " film, writing, and even magic " but it is his passion for music that spreads his message of peace around the world. - 18424
