A Couple Of Quality Hollywood Movie Reviews To Look At

By Sheree William

It wasn't that long ago that a trip to the corner video shop was the most convenient way to get a movie. As technologies have advanced, downloading dvds off movie download sites is becoming very common. You can get virtually any movie you want with a good movie download site. Here are some examples.

Mac and Me: Sort of an E.T. copy in reference to Mac, an outer space being, and his plight in suburban L.A. It is more of a television advertisement than a film. There's a production number set in a McDonald's, and the alien lives on Coca-Cola. Cast includes Christine Ebersole, Jonathan Ward, Katrina Caspary, Lauren Stanley, and Jade Calegory. (93 minutes,'88)

Across the Bridge: Scotland Yard is closing in on a German business man who is involved with some illegal deals. He goes on the run, and tries to enter the US by way of Mexico. To pull this off he tries to switch identities with another passenger on his way. Stars include Rod Steiger, David Knight, and Maria Landi. (1957 British-Drama)

Absolute Beginners: This film is a British musical. The musical themes are jazzed based with Sade included in the performance. The film is set in London in the late 50's, with young men and women coming of age as the setting. Eddie O'Connell, Patsy Kensit, David Bowie, and James Fox star. (1986 musical)

Dinner for Adele: Genuinely wacky film that finds idol Notch Carter in Prague in the year'00 examining a killing spree that ultimately leads to carnivorous plant identified as Adele. A tongue in cheek film is finished in the style of a quiet melodrama. Cast includes Rudolf Hrusinsky, Milos Kopecky, Nada Konvalinkova, and Ladislav Pesek. (100 minutes,'78)

The Matrix Revolutions: Outside the matrix, humans battle valiantly against the onslaught of Sentinels. Meanwhile Neo is inside the matrix, trying to get to the source, and stop the devastation from within. Neo eventually confronts the Deux Ex Machina, and makes a deal to stop the war. His confrontation with Smith will decide the fate of both civilizations, and his true destiny.

Clue: Stupid joke whodunit based on the trendy board game of the same name with all the recognizable characters Mrs. Peacock, Colonel Mustard, Miss Red, et al. assembled for a murderous day in a Victorian mansion. Everyone tries extremely hard bet there is nothing they can do to save this weak film. Cast includes Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Ponder, and Howard Hesseman. (87 minutes,'85)

King and 4 Queens: Static misfire with Gable on the run he stole from the men of 4 females he confronts. Cast includes Clark Gable, Eleanor Parker, Jo Van Fleet, Jean Wiles, Barbara Nichols, Sara Shane, and Jay C. Flip. (86 minutes,'56)

Wyatt Earp: The story of Wyatt Earp, legendary gunman in the west. Wyatt Earp lived from'48-1929 and roamed the western frontier towns of America. He was one of the key players at the famous gunfight and the OK corral. Wyatt survived that day, and then hunted down the rest of the bad guys.

Far and Away: A scrappy Irish occupant farmer hooks up, in doubtful style, with the comparably feisty daughter of a prosperous landowner, and together they travel to America to seek their final fate in the'93 Oklahoma land rush. Superlative platform for Tom and Nicole, who are both attractive and involving; the problem is a drastic absence of good dialogue to fill the gaps between fight scenes. Cast includes Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Thomas Gibson, Robert Prosky, Barbara Babcock, Cohn Meaney, and Rance Howard. (140 minutes,'92)

The Great New Wonderful: A striking drama, set one year after 9-11, concentrates on a variety of New Yorkers who either are battling to handle their emotions in regards to that atrocious night or in reference to their lives as if nothing had occurred. They contain a couple with a dysfunctional child, an older lady snared in a miserable matrimony, a set of security guards, and an outwardly affable accountant who worked at the World Trade Center, and survived. Discreet, incisive research of suppressed anger uses humor and observation to dramatize the importance of living a life that has meaning. Cast includes Olympia Dukakis, Jim Gaffigan, Judy Greer, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tom McCarthy, Sharat Saxena, Naseeruddin Shah, Tony Shalhoub, Stephen Colbert, Dick Latessa, Can Amett, Anita Gillette, and Edie Falco. (87 minutes, 2006)

Buck Privates: An out dated but engaging Army opus with Bud and Lou inadvertently registering for the army. Brassy melodies (containing the Andrews Sisters "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy") and subplots get in the way; however A&C's regimens are some of their best in their first feature film. Cast includes Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Lee Bowman, Alan Curtis, The Andrews Siblings, Jane Frazee, Nat Pendleton, and Shemp Howard. (84 minutes,'41)

Black Windmill the Dracula: This is a classic terror film of the Transylvanian vampire performing his malevolent spell on puzzled group of Londoners. Lugosi's most renowned role with his definitive explanation of the Tally, ditto Frye as loony Renfield and Van Sloan as unflappable Professor Van Helsing. Cast includes Bela Lugosi, David Behaviors, Helen Chandler, Dwight Frye, Edward Van Sloan, Herbert Bunston, and Frances Dade. (75 minutes,'31)

Rich in Love: The individuals behind Driving Miss Daisy have taken Josephine Humphreys' novel and tried to knit another evocative Southern story but they don't really triumph, although there are numerous fine scenes. The film is based on a child trying to keep her family together. Amid the members are her idle dad (another awesome Finney depiction), missing mom, and nutty sibling. Cast includes Albert Finney, Jill Clayburgh, Kathryn Erbe, Kyle MacLachlan, Piper Laurie, Ethan Hawke, Suzy Amis, and Alfie Woodard. (105 minutes,'93)

Air Force 1: This movie is a supercharged thriller in regards to aggressive Kazakhstani alarmists taking over Delta one and keeping the President, his family, and his entourage prisoner in midair. This film is an extreme, brutal, nail biting popcorn fodder movie, anchored by Ford as a 2 fisted president who's not scared to get physical. Cast includes Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, Glenn Close, Dean Stockwell, Wendy Crewson, Paul Guilfoyle, William H. Macy, Liesel Matthews, Xander Berkeley, Bill Smitrovich, Elya Baskin, and Jiirgen Prochnow. (124 minutes,'97)

The Pawnbroker: This is a vital, preoccupying film. Steiger is phenomenal as Saul Nazerman, a Jewish pawnbroker in Harlem who lives in a protected environment with haunting memories of Nazi jail camps. Cast includes Rod Steiger, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Brock Peters, Jaime Sanchez, Thelma Oliver, Juano Hernandez, and Raymond St. Jacques. (116 minutes,'65)

Lightning the White Stallion: An incredibly weak family fare with Rooney a prosperous guy whose racehorse is stolen. Cast includes Mickey Rooney, Isabel Lorea, Susan George, and Billy Wesley. (95 minutes,'86)

Cast includes Charles Lane, Nicole Alysia, Sandye Wilson, Darnell Williams, and Trula Hoosier. (97 minutes,'89)
