The Beatles 2009 Remasters
The Beatles studio albums were first remastered digitally and released on CD back in the 80s at that time remastering for CD was still a relatively new art and since then much has been found out about how to remaster best but most important is that at that time the digital technology was still in it's infancy in comparison to today.
The many leaps forward in digital technology and all of the knowledge learned of how to best make digital masters have been put to use with the Beatles remasters of 2009. On September 9 The Beatles released both The Beatles Stereo Box Set and The Beatles in Mono. And both of these box sets sound absolutely fantastic. If you've yet to hear 'em, I recommend you get your hands on The Beatles remasters as soon as you can.
Which flavor of Beatles remastered should a fan order? Well for this Beatles fan the answer was "both of them" but if you can only choose one you will most likely want to go with the stereo box set since it includes all thirteen of their studio LPs and most folks really do like the stereo mixes more than the mono mixes.
The mono box set is more for hardcore Beatles fanatics who want to listen for every single difference between the stereo & mono mixes (and with some songs they are quite different from each other) and for those who want to listen to The Beatles how they originally heard them (this, of course, applies to the original fans who were there for The Beatles in the flesh back in the 60s.)
On December 8th there will be a 3rd choice: The Beatles USB Flash Drive. This USB memory stick includes the Beatles entire stereo remastered box set in a little thing you can easily hold in your hand. Isn't that cool? And it contains all of their albums in 2 ways; better than CD quality 24bit FLAC and 320kbps mp3s.
That "better than CD quality" part is what will bring in a good number of audiophiles but for casual fans it is the high quality mp3s that will be most interesting. - 18424
