Live Music Or Hire A Function Band?

By Elizabeth Pratt

Hiring a function band for your next major event or social function is more important than you may believe. Whether it's a wedding reception, business convention or birthday party having the right function band playing live music can transform your routine event into the social event of the season.

Live music can take a party from good to great and top flight entertainment will have people talking for years to come. However this will only happen if you hire the right people and follow a few simple rules.

Word of mouth is the best advertisement and this is especially true when it comes to hiring a function band to perform for your special gathering. Recommendations from friends and colleagues are a wonderful resource to use if you want to find a great band, so ask around!

Maybe you can set up a schedule with them whenever they can present you with something that they perform, but if there is really no chance of performing live, asking for their demo video would be the next best thing to do. It is necessary that you know how this particular band performs. You of course, want this band to sound amazingly awesome, but look excellent as well.

Ask the function band representative or manager for their prices to play at events and for the songs that they can play during the expected party. You should only hire a band that possesses professionalism towards negotiations. If this band does not have something written, then forget about them and just look for another one. Often, a non-refundable 10-20% amount will be charged to ensure that they will come on the expected date and time.

First, find out if the function band that you are about to hire plays and takes requests. If you would inform them ahead of time, they would as they can prepare their endless list of songs to play during the event.

You may want to see their equipment as well. Check that their equipment is adequate and of course safe. It is very important that they are aware and practice safety precautions and make sure that they will follow them carefully, for instance; no loose wiring should be exposed.

Find out what sort of clothes they wear during a live performance. If the costume or attire that the function band is wearing is a little out of place, you can suggest something that they can wear that will go with the theme of the event.

Most of the time, the function band is required to show up an hour before the party begins. It is important that they set up and sound check stuff that normal bands would do. Giving them the program or the flow of the party as this would also help the band; this way they know when they should play and when they should not.

Everyone would be staring at your function band once they take center stage. You can take some of your time to take a quick look at how they look. Are they presentable? Doing so, this hosted party will result in making headlines all over town; you will have the neighbors talking about it for ages! - 18424

After years of producing rock music that has spread around the globe, it's no wonder The Rolling Stones is recognised as one of the worlds best rock 'n' roll bands. Their tracks were written in different places, studios and by various writers, and the same was for their albums being produced by various record companies yet their albums have consistently topped the record charts in both the US and UK. Their music has been inspirational to themselves and their fans and they have continued to produce great music from 1964 to 2005. Over the years, The Stones have captured the hearts and ears of their fans.

Way back in 1964, their first album, "The Rolling Stones" was well received. On the 16th April, their album was one of the biggest selling albums in the UK and for two weeks, remained at number 1. Jagger and Richards were the bands main song writers, but only wrote one song for the debut album. Credited as contributors to the bands sessions for the other tracks on the album included Phil Spector, Gene Pitney and Nankher Phelge. Some of the 12 tracks featured on the album included "Little by Little", "Carol" and "Tell Me (You're Coming Back)".

22 studio albums were produced by The Rolling Stones in the UK helping to maintain their popularity in the music industry. Continuing their R & B related style, their success was sustained with the release of their "The Rolling Stones No.2" album. Contributing three tracks for this album were the bands songwriters Jagger and Richards. The bands musical experimentation with the African xylophone and harmonica were noted in their fourth UK studio album "Aftermath".

The Stones have released 24 studio albums in the US. They also released eight live albums in the UK that topped the charts, including "Love you life", "Got LIVE if you want it" and "Still Life". A further 14 compilation albums were also released including the 2002 hit album "Forty Licks", "Through the Past Darkly" and "Big Hits (high tide and green grass)". Effects Pedals - Are They Worth the Trouble?

By R. S. Rasnick

Guitar effects pedals (or "stompboxes") have been a backbone in guitarists' sound-palettes since the early 1960's when engineer Roger Mayer is purported to have built the first guitar effects pedals, the "fuzz" pedal (the precurser of the modern overdrive and distortion pedal) and the wah-pedal.

Mayer created pedals that were used by the likes of legendary rockers Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, and Jimmy Page (for whom Mayer, his friend, reportedly created the first pedal in 1963 or 1964). Today, numerous effects are widely used by electric guitar players.

Effects pedals are used to give the guitar player more tonal colors or, that is, an expansion of timbre on his instrument's palette.

It's possible to use an amplifier's settings to create these distinct tonal colors, too, but the amplifier is limited to what effects it can give, plus its settings would have to be changed only between songs, whereas guitar players oftentimes want to vary tonality and color in the midst of playing a single song, and often many times over.

Not unlike the electric guitar and amplifier itself, effects pedals contribute to guitarists having a broad range of tonal expression.

Today, even some acoustic guitar players and classical guitar players use effects pedals although the distortion and wah pedals used by electric guitar players aren't usually part of their tonal palette.

After the initial popularity of guitar effects pedals, manufacturers created rack-mounted gear that was either aimed at guitarists or widely used by them. Companies such as Yamaha and Eventide made products that were often found in the racks of famous guitarists, particularly in the 1980's.

Since rack gear requires a more advanced and time-consuming approach (not to mention considerably more money) than pedals, most guitar players choose effects pedals for their ease and tweakability.

So, with their effects usually mounted on pedalboards (a way to transport and store effects pedals), electric guitar players have only to "stomp" on the pedal box (hence the name "stompbox") to instantly switch on or switch off an effect.

Volume and Wah pedals are usually mounted in such a way that facilitates their usage, since those pedals have to be "rocked" back and forth to affect their sound.

For ease of use, most (if not all) effects pedals can be turned on or off with a simple step of the toe, which can be useful in many musical situations. For example, if one wanted to switch from a heavily distorted tone to a clean tone speedily and easily, in order to have distinct tones for distinct sections of the song, it's easy to do so. Another quick motion and the distorted tone returns. Easy!

Guitar Players often spend a great deal of time fine-tuning their effects, amps, and guitars just to get the "perfect" sound that they've been looking for.

Common effects devices include distortion, overdrive, chorus, flanger, echo, delay, vibrato, tremolo, flanging, and pitch-shifting, just to name a few. These effects can have drastic changes on a guitarist's sound.

So if you are a developing electric guitar player who wants to explore new sonic landscapes, check out some guitar effects pedals today! - 18424

By Penelope George

In the future none of us will ever go to the video store to seek for a movie. We won't wait for it to come in the mail and we will always be able to watch the exact movie that we sought after, anytime and any place.

In the future we will each time download our movies rather than renting or buying them. The fact is that you can download movies currently and take advantage of this wonderful technology.

You can download movies from a highly regarded membership site and it will end up costing you the price of the membership or you may be tempted to take advantage of the numerous offers of "free" download movies that you can find online. There are millions of free offers but in this case as in most other things you get what you pay for.

The fact is if you are not using a respectable membership site to download movies you are putting yourself at threat for many viruses, adware and malware. Most people do need to have their computers up and running securely and smoothly and taking a gamble on something akin to that just for a movie or game download is just precarious.

Generally you will find that membership costs are quite affordable and they are definitely much less than going out to a theater. They tend to be quite equivalent to memberships to video stores or mail in movie memberships. One main benefit though is that you can get the film you really want when you really want it.

Right now on the Internet there is a lot of file sharing going on. There are more and more websites that are letting users download movies, games, music and software. Just make positive that you are downloading from a reliable site that will not contaminate your computer. When you join a highly regarded membership site you can more often than not download innumerable movies at just one fee.

The membership rates that you will need to pay will vary depending upon the duration of the subscription and the payment plans. There are also sites that offer a pay per download choice if you do not want to download too many movies. If you are planning on downloading and watching a lot of movies a longer subscription is most likely a smarter choice.

Most of the sites offer not only movies but also games, software and music. All of these options should be incorporated in the original membership cost.

As you search for motion picture downloads you may find some websites that are offering to let you download movies for at no cost. If you think about it, you will grant that it is not really viable to offer such a significant service for nothing and that there must be a catch. You will be putting your computer at jeopardy for viruses, adware and malware or even worse. There are copyright laws and lawful constraints that the reputable sites take into consideration and if you are wise you will stick with the sites that are doing it the official and trustworthy way.

Wow, how the times have changed! The options to watch movies at home are now limitless as the most convenient resolution until now is downloading movies right to you own computer, anytime of the day and any picture that you want.
