Today with the rise in popularity of the internet all you need to find some great instrumental music online is a computer with an internet connection. By simply pointing your browser with search terms like instrumental music, you are smothered by a whole smorgasbord of websites offering not only paid, but free online instrumental music.

With a little detective work and patients you can find your own favorite websites that will play your favorite instrumentals. In this article I will share a few of my hot spots online where I go to get my free instrumental music online.

First on my list is AOL Radio. This is a place to go for music to relax and meditate by. And you dont have to be an AOL member to listen. Simply type AOL Radio in your browser and you are directed to their main Music site. From the main Stations by Category list located on the left side of the site, under Eclectic, youll find titles such as Ambient, Meditation, Nature Sounds and New Age. This site also offers a Classical section where you can find stations playing every type of classical instrumental music online that you can think of from Baroque to Renaissance. This is one of my favorite spots to go to listen to Classical instrumental music online. Need that lift or that extra get up in your step? Then do like I do and visit one of my favorite Christian instrumental music sites online, crosswalk radio. They are known for having some of the most popular new age Christian contemporary instrumentals along with a well balanced mix of old. All you have to do is register with the Salem Web Network All-Pass System and you are granted access to some great pick me up instrumentals.

Every Christmas I love to hear the sounds of those old Christmas songs without all the sappy lyrics. Just good ole fashion music is all I need to get me in the Christmas spirit. The place I like to visit online for Christmas instrumentals is Live 365. Live 365 has a ton of live DJs that broadcast everything from the classics to holiday favorites. Another genre of music that I love is the blues, but with no lyrics and lots of soul. The place that I found that has free streaming instrumental music online and gives me just the right mix is My Music Stream. I like them for Jazz as well, but I mainly go here to listen to the blues.

In conclusion, there are tons of great places online that offer free instrumentals you just have to know where to look. Adding Midi Files to your Webpage

Adding midi files to a webpage is an easy way to add music without using large files such as mp3 for background music.

People email me with the question, "How do I put midi files on my page?" Here is the code of an embedded midi file I have on one of my webpages.I use EMBED src="midifile.mid" width=145 height=30 autostart=true loop=true surrounded by brackets

In the same directory as the webpage, place your midi file Replace midifile.mid with the name of your midi file . Width and height display a console on the page. If you do not want a player to display on the web page Enter 1 or 2 for the width and height (0 width and height might cause problems with some players).

autostart=true means the file will play automatically when the page loads. autostart=false would not start the file automatically

loop=true causes the file to play over and over, you can also have loop=false to only play once

You can play midi files in Internet Explorer, or other browsers. You can also select which program will play the midi file. In Internet Explorer, this is controlled by the "Programs" tab (under "Tools", then "Internet Options"). Go to Internet Programs/Set Programs/Associate a File Type or protocol with a program/. In that displayed list of file extensions, look for ".mid or .midi" in the "Name" column. You can see the "Current Default" column and choose what program will be used when you click on a MIDI file on a www page.

Some online midi files uses "zipped" files, If the .zip file extension is your Unzip program, such as Winzip, the zipped file can be played by clicking or double clicking the mid file when Winzip show the contents, and it plays!

If you set up your Helper Apps to "play" the midi song when selected with a particular program, you can always save it (download it) instead of playing it by right clicking on the link to the file file and using the "Save Target as" to save the file to your hard drive. That way, you don't have to delete your "Helper apps" entry for .mid files if you want to save it or have to hunt through your Temporary Internet Files directory, to find the file (which might have a temp name, like "VGKYF9GG" or something strange like that) - 18424
