What You Have Know About Buying A Synthesizer

By Brady Carlson

Many people take lessons in a musical instrument because they envision themselves composing and playing their own music. But it isn't enough to just take lessons or have high hopes. You have to get to know your instrument.

If you settle on buying a synthesizer you must first learn about the instrument. You should be knowledgeable about its parts and features, the various brands that are available, and their prices. Let us consider how best to go about buying a synthesizer.

A synthesizer is a very expensive instrument. Therefore, you should not rush into buying one. You carefully consider all that is involved in this decision.

First of all synthesizers come in analog and digital. We can't say for sure which is better because it depends on your needs. For personal use, a good basic machine may be best. For studio use, you might want to look at digital or even a software synthesizer. Let your budget and your needs work together.

When possible, go for moderation in price. You may not be able to go too high, but you don't want to look for the lowest price either. What if it has a horrible keyboard or a sound that just isn't right? What if it isn't made well and won't last a long time?

Before you make a decision to buy, you want to "test drive" the synthesizer. See what kind of sound it has, examine each function and pay special attention to the sound unit. Just as you would do when purchasing a car, try several different instruments and consult an expert, particularly if you are buying a used one.

You might decide to look at used synthesizers, thinking you can get a better one for less money. That's possible, but you have to be even more wary here. Some instruments make finer music as they get older, but that's not true with a synthesizer. So you have to listen and look, making sure there are no uneven notes or flickering displays because of an old battery.

Especially for a studio, or for the practiced musician who also composes, the workstation may be the best bet. Still a synthesizer, it includes many voices, special effects, drum kits, and a sequencer. You can create studio sound with just one piece of equipment if you choose this option. - 18424

History of Guitars: A Must For Any Music Lover

By Wendy Racklave

Slash's "Sweet Child of Mine", Brian May of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" and Carlos Augusto Santana Alves' "Maria Maria" If you are not familiar with these, then you are at a loss. Some of the best guitar performers made these songs well-known and allowed people to enjoy their music better through dancing and singing. But do you actually know the history of these musical instruments?

Guitars used to be ordinary instruments, those that could not meet the standards of classical music. In fact in the early 19th century, Fernando Sor has started the battle in raising the level of guitars in the music industry to the highest as possible. Soon enough, Sor seemed to have gained success in his quest.

Now, guitars have gained popularity as a choice of musical instrument. Basically, it's a six-stringed instrument, but you can also find those with four, seven, eight, ten, eleven, twelve, and thirteen strings.

Did you know that the earliest iconographic representation that seems to embody the essential features of a guitar is an old stone carving of a Hittite bard? It was said that guitars originated from Indo-Europeans who lived 4000 years ago, and that in the medieval times, Europe popularized the use of this musical instrument. Though Europeans have the credit for guitar's development, it still cannot be disowned that Central Asia and India have used this instrument as a part of their native culture.

The most important influence that has put guitars on the modern pedestal can probably be attributed to Spain. Romans actually brought the Roman cithara to Spain in the year 40 AD. This instrument was named after an Old Persian term sihtar which means string. Guitar soon evolved upon the arrival of oud, a four-stringed instrument brought by Moors, and upon the arrival of lut, a six-stringed Scandinavian instrument. During 1200 AD, the four-stringed guitar had two types. One of these is called the Moorish guitar, and the other one is called Latin guitar. Of the two, the latter resembled the modern guitar that you have today.

These instruments were played by people from the lower and middle class families, while aristocrats had their vihuela or viola de mano to play. Vihuela or viola de mano is a Spanish guitar created in the 16th century that contributed to guitar's evolution.

Guitars have three major types namely: electric guitars, classical guitars, and acoustic guitars. Yet, so many guitar variations have come out up to this date. Electric guitars have greatly contributed to pop music's development in the US, since it amplifies and adds effects to improve the music. Acoustic guitars on the other hand, have created soft music with its pure tones. Lastly, classical guitars relive the moments of baroque and romantic periods.

To add to these details, a lot of brands for guitars have already swarmed the market nowadays. Yamaha, Taylor and Jackson are some of these guitar brands, to name a few. - 18424
