What The Ordinary Movie Ratings Mean

By Nicole V Peterson

Movies have long had a rating system that is used as a guide to let parents and individuals know if a specific motion picture is proper for particular viewers. It is often to shelter children and let parents know if a movie comprises violent or sexual scenes, however it may be rated for something as simple as smoking or swearing. Many people differ with many ratings for many movies and there have even been copyright cases where a company deliberately deleted scenes that they deemed inappropriate though the film may have been rated a PG or PG-13.

Movies are very different from each other and it is very tough to maintain a set standard that is reliable for every movie. One person may be offended by a semi-nude scene that suggests sexuality while another one watching the identical movie may find that the suicide by gun scene is more offensive, diverse people have different reactions and beliefs about what is or is not inappropriate.

The rating system for movies though is based upon theme and content. Parents and individuals need to take accountability themselves and just use the rating system as a guide as one should never rely on the rating system totally.

A G rating means that the movie has been deemed suitable for general audiences. It may or may not be a children's film but it will not have sexual scenes, swearing, drug or alcohol use, cigarette smoking or violence.

PG recommends parental guidance. There may be brief moments of the abovementioned scenes but none are disproportionate. Parents are just cautioned that the scenes may exist. PG-13 is a stronger parental guidance caution. This is typically a movie that is not enough to demand an R rating but proper for a PG-13 either. These movies are meant for children over the age of 13 with parental direction. There is perhaps nudity or implied sexuality and/or violence.

No one under the age of 17 will be allowed into an R rated movie unless they are accompanied by an adult guardian or parent. There is likely sexual scenes, drug abuse or violence. Parents are encouraged to watch these movies first before deciding to permit a child or young person to watch it.

The newest rating is an NC-17. No one under the age of 17 is admitted into the theater to see these movies. These movies are infrequently pornographic but they do have adult content, either sexual or even violence beyond what is suitable for anyone under the age of 17.

As with most things a parent needs to make a mindful choice on what is or is not apt for their offspring. The ratings system is just a broad guide. - 18424

Guitar Instructional DVD: Repeat Your Lessons Many Times As You Need To

By Chris Harris

Knowing the fact that the approach you use to learn the guitar is the key-determining factor in your success or failure to actually learn, these three conclusions follow:

Surround yourself with better players (or at least with those on your same level.) When you started out playing guitar, everyone was better than you, but now you have grown and there are less people better than you than before. The better you get, the harder it will be to find others who are superior to you to hang around or jam with.

Believe in yourself. You have probably heard that phrase many times before. Its unfortunate how many people still refuse to invest their own beliefs into themselves. I wrote an article on Perseverance which deals indirectly with believing in yourself. Please read it if you have a problem believing that you can reach your goals.

The only time one needs to learn lots of different styles of music is because your goals REQUIRE it. If you truly love a lot of styles and want to learn them all, then go ahead and do that. If you want to be a studio musician or a jobber, then you will need that versatility. Its very hard to be REALLY good at many styles.

Ultimately you should work backwards. State your ultimate goals (on paper) then make a bunch of short and medium range goals. Think of reaching your goals as a relay race, NOT as a marathon. Each short term and medium term goal is the end of one segment of your plan and the beginning of the next segment (just like a relay race.) There are many benefits of looking at things this way as you will discover for yourself in your own way.

Now that we have the proper attitude in focus, let's talk about how to go about "managing" the process of changing bad playing habits. How do we actually conduct ourselves, and our practicing and playing? As I have said, some people become paralyzed, afraid to play, afraid of undoing work done in practice sessions by what they do when they play. And for those who play professionally, it is of course, absolutely necessary that they continue to play, even if they are doing "remedial" work on their technique.

I believe "Self Expression" is the pinnacle of all art. Anything less, "is less" in my opinion. I'm not going to debate that view or try to persuade any of you to also believe it. Instead I am going to assume you already hold that view and discuss ways in which I may be able to offer you both philosophical and practical advice.

Bar chords are what I am referring to. I am going to address the physical, technical aspects of learning these chords in a way that will enable you to avoid the difficulties that attend the learning of them for most players. - 18424

You've got the blues, you've got a guitar--now you need to learn the scales. Those distinctive, southern, pre-Elvis post gospel scales. When it comes down to it, there are only 3 chords you really need to master. Every blues song consists of three chords. They're the one the four and the five.

Most blues men use E A and B, some prefer A D and E, or G C and D, played in the 7th. Bla bla bla sixth this seventh that augmented this diminished that. What the heck am I talking about?

Chances are though, you already have a guitar. It's the weapon of choice of the heart broken isn't it? You probably GOT a guitar because you were sad about something. Nothing like a six string box to pour your heart through. Something about the twang of the strings just tells you, yeah, I feel your pain.

To get some insight into the evolution of flatpicking guitar playing, it might help to look at how Doc Watson, whose guitar playing career began in the nineteen fifties, contributed to the use of flatpicking guitar in bluegrass music. It was simply that the band he was working with did not have a fiddle player and Doc was not able to become a good fiddle player himself. So because he enjoyed fiddle tunes, he simply learned how to play them on the guitar. - 18424

Handy Guidelines To Hurry Up Your Movie Download

By Phyllis H Foster

If you use a decent site to download movies from the Internet it can be one of the best ways to get the movies that you want when you want them. Downloading directly to your computer is a wonderful way to see the best new movies.

But one objection that comes up is that fact that the download can take such a lengthy time. The download time has to do with your computer speed and your connection speed but you can execute a couple of things to reduce the time or at least the nuisance.

One thing that seems to work well is to set it up to download when you are away from your computer, just before leaving for work or going to bed is always good. Out of sight, out of mind and when you get back it is all done.

You can also maximize your bandwidth by downloading a couple of movies at a time. Your download will probably go more rapidly and you will end up with more movies in the time it typically takes to just get one.

Try using a Firefox web browser instead of Internet Explorer. You can only download as fast as your browser will tolerate so experiment until you find what works best.

You can optimize your Internet connection by using a TCP optimizer. Just do a search online and then follow the information. This program will help you to find the optimum TCP window for your connection speed. Your movie downloads will go quicker if you optimize what you can.

When you sign up for a movie download site look for information pertaining to their download speeds. Most of them will offer some tips for downloading as well as doing it more rapidly.

Downloading straight from the Internet to your computer is still the unsurpassed way to get movies today. The process is just going to get easier and easier so test and learn all that you can today. - 18424

Learn To Play Guitar DVD: Improve Your Technical Skills

By Eric Fitzpatrick

It seems strange to me how many incorrect assumptions and teachings there are about becoming a better guitarist. Here is one thing that is NOT true.

Find out what inspires you and soak yourself in that. For me, going to concerts to see great players or bands inspires me to practice more. Listening to great singers inspired me to refine my vibrato and phrasing.

This is the most close-minded philosophy I can think of. Musical skills are tools. One should want to obtain and master as many of these tools as will be needed to reach your goals.

Doing that alone won't work well and even if it does eventually work, it will take 10 times aslong! Besides, how will you know if what you are trying to do is original if you don't learn about what has already been done?

Beethoven was, of course, a master, but did not enjoy the fruits of any natural talents. He constantly edited his works over and over, trying to perfect them. Mozart , by comparison, very rarely ever edited anything he wrote.

People ask, "should I stop playing everything I am used to playing, until I get rid of all my bad habits"? Well, if you have a lot more discipline than I have, go ahead and do that! If you can stand not making music for months, go ahead, but I don't recommend it.

They start to feel like that song by Al Yankovich, "Everything You Know Is Wrong". They realize that even though they may have been playing for 25 years, there are certain really fundamental things they have never known, and if they did know them from the beginning, everything would have gone differently for them in their growth as guitarists.

Begin to do all the Foundation Exercises, because they will start to undo the foundation of all your bad habits. Do them every day for perhaps ten minutes. If you are not using my book, get all you can from my essays, and apply those approaches, experiment with them, and elaborate upon them, and adapt them to new situations. - 18424
