Cujo: Sincerely terrifying adaptation of Stephen King thriller about a female and her child terrorized by a rabid St. Bernard. The plot develops gradually and is undoubtedly too horrifying (although not gory) for kids. Cast includes Dee Wallace, Daniel Hugh-Kelly, Christopher Rock, and Factories Watson. (91 minutes, 1983)
Just Cause: A famous Harvard Law School professor is convinced to help a black gentleman in Florida who's getting ready to be executed for a heinous offense he avows he didn't carry out. He takes on the case and things take many twists and turns before we see how things turn out.. Cast includes Sean Connery, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Capshaw, Blair Underwood, Ed Harris, Chris Sarandon, and George Plimpton. (102 minutes, 1995)
Lunch Wagon Girls: Ball turns investigator in this melodrama and confronts weird characters and harrowing experiences while tracking a killer. This film is excellent, with a top cast. Cast includes Lucille Ball, Charles Coburn, Alan Mowbray, Cedric Hardwicke, Boris Karloff, and George Zucco. (95 minutes, 1968)
The Three Muskateers: Musketeers Athos, Porthos, and Aramis join young D'Artagnan in an attempt to stop Cardinal Richelieu, who is plotting to form an alliance with the English. The Musketeers are abandoned, and asked to throw down their swords. These three refuse, and along with D'Artagnan will try and save France.
Black Narcissus: Visually sumptuous, dramatically charged film, from a Godden novel. Nuns are trying to develop a mission in a remote Himalayan outpost among difficult visible and spiritual tests. One of the most amazing color films ever made (deserved Oscars for cinematographers Jack Cardiff and Alfred Junge). Scenes in which Sister Better Kerr recollects her prior life was eliminated from the US version. Cast includes Deborah Kerr, David Farrar, Jean Simmons, and Kathleen Byron. (100 minutes, 1999)
Friday Night Lights: High school football in Dillon Texas is as big as anything gets. When Eric Taylor comes in to coach the Panthers, the expectations are high. This movie shows the intense pressure and huge hopes the town puts on its team.
