Cry the Beloved Country: This is a moving redo of the 1951 film based on Alan Paton's rejoiced novel, in reference to a backwoods pastor (Jones) who, in 1946, makes his first ever trip to the city of Johannesburg in search of his errant child. At the same time prosperous landowner Harris voyages there to claim the body of his child, who has just been killed. We see phenomenal work by Jones, Harris, and a largely foreign cast. Not as understated as the first making, however powerful in its own way. Cast includes Richard Harris, James Earl Jones, Charles S. Dutton, and Vusi Kunene. (120 minutes, 1995)
Lost Boundaries: This is a penetrating, well-meaning but slow paced account of a committed, light skinned Negro physician (Ferrer, in his debut) who (with his family) passes for white in a tiny New Hampshire town. Cast includes Beatrice Pearson, Mel Ferrer, Richard Hylton, Susan Douglas, Canada Lee, Rev. Robert Dunn, and Carleton Carpenter. (99 minutes, 1949)

Richard Adler and Jerry Ross' melodies contain "Hey, There." Dancer Haney stands out in her "Mist Heat" characteristic and in the lively "Once a Year Night" barbeque number. Hot enough for June: Made at the peak of the James Bond fad, this spoof characteristics Bogarde as a bumbling spy in Czechoslovakia. This film is an occasionally clever, gleaming comedy.
