A Guide To Beginner Guitar Songs
If youve been practicing your chords and strumming patterns for a while now these beginner guitar songs are probably starting to look pretty tempting but how do you know which ones are best?
Well there are lots of them available. Assuming you have completed the necessary ground work youll be spoilt for choice and quickly building a list of easy guitar songs you can play.
It could be that you are already well versed in the standard beginner guitar songs such as Please Mr. Postman, Knockin on Heavens Door or Stand by Me however many more exist. Each era of music has dished up its own collection of simple guitar songs to choose from.
One of the most important things to own is a Capo. This simple device will allow you to play in many different keys and avoid, should you wish to, the challenge of mastering Barre chords.
Something in common for all beginner guitar songs is they are playable using the easier open chords. However, even harder songs written with Barre chords can be converted into open chords by your tutor or a little bit knowledge in music theory.
Converting songs this way will greatly increase how many beginner guitar songs are available to you to choose from. Aside from this it will also mean that you can escape the traditional ones everyone else can play and enjoy more freedom and scope.
Its important to do the necessary preparation work required before diving into songs. Yes beginner guitar songs can look easy and inviting but jump in too soon and you run the risk of wanting to give up if you still find them challenging. Its not that theyre too difficult or beyond your abilities, its that you havent put in enough basic practice and preparation.
In my experience as a guitar teacher I advise you to have at least 4 weeks of daily practice with chords and strumming before going further. This should be sufficient to prepare you for beginner guitar songs.
As a last word of advice dont try to do it all at once. Separate the elements of the song into individual parts to master one by one. Look at the chord progression and practice it with single strums, isolate the strum on its own and cycle it with muted strings.
Through this sequence youll be giving yourself every opportunity to master the song. With beginner guitar songs, once you master 3 or 4 the rest will come very easily. - 18424
