All About G&L Guitars
G&L guitar factory was established way before its founder Leo Fender died last March 1991. Before this happened, he already made arrangements with John C. McLaren regarding G&L's future in marketing guitars.
This arrangement was further noted when Leo's wife, Phyllis chose BBE Sound, which is under John's leadership to manage G&L after his husband died. The ownership of G&L was then transferred to BBE sounds up to this day. The G&L guitar factory still makes its guitar production while Leo's private workshop was untouched and converted into a museum for visitors around the world.
From the selection of instruments that G&L creates, its custom creation department produced a collection of instruments called Limited Edition and Special Build. Limited Edition includes instruments produced by the company, which has special documentation.
Every instrument built in this edition has an equivalent identification found on the body, the G&L Plant Manager's signature on the back of the headstock, a special hand-marked model name, and the date of completion. Included on the Limited Edition are the ASAT "Classic three" which has 100 instruments manufactured, Custom Creations Rampage with 70 produce, ASAT junior 250 instruments that run from 1998-1999, 20th Anniversary Model in 2000 with 50 made, 25th Anniversary Model in 2006 makes 250 instruments, F-100 Return Edition in July of 2007 making 100 pieces, and the Phyllis Model: Blondie also July 2007 in 100 pieces.
The Special Build are instruments that do not have limited number of production, but can be made from time to time.
This selection includes the ASAT Classic Bluesboy w/ Spalted Maple Top built in January 2008 with 60 pieces on its first run, the ASAT "Classic S" (first run on January to March of 2004 with 100 pieces and another 100 pieces on its second run last April 2007), the ASAT "Super" (production began in May 2004 until April 2007), the Comanche Studio VI (which has 100 pieces made on June 2007), the Legacy Spalted Maple (produced May of 2008 in 100 pieces), and the L-2000 Spalted Maple (in May 2008 also with 100 instruments made).
