Create Your Own Success by Promoting Your Own Classic Album
When you cannot find a label to you back you in your first record making project, all is not lost. If you have the funding, you can still make the album and then promote your own classical album to sell. In essence, you are going to be your own PR firm to get you noticed and hopefully, eventually signed with a legitimate label.
A mistake that a lot of people will make is that they try to take on too much. You are already venturing into an area that you are not that familiar with so you are really going to need to keep it very basic. If you try to take on too much or do too much, you are going to end up sinking your effort before it ever really gets off the ground.
If you want to avoid these pratfalls, you have to set up goals and stick to them. You do this by breaking each one of them down further to make everything as simple as possible. If you make it too complicated, you will find that are never getting anywhere. This way, you are going to see progress and success breeds success.
When you are getting ready to move forward, you have to get a press kit together that you can distribute. This is more or less a little sales kit that you can put out that will hopefully attract people and promote both you and your album. It should include: a demo CD, photos, a bio, all of your contact information, and website links if you have them. Allow the person to be able to learn anything that they need about your music with a quick glance or a click on their computer.
At this point, you are going to have to figure out who you are going to target for distribution. When you are promoting actual shows, the best bet is to focus on local media and try and draw as much attention as you can in order to get an audience at the show. You can try and get some local radio shows to help you promote the concert as well.
It is very important at this stage that you do not waste money. In order to make sure that you are getting the most out of every dollar that you spend, you have to keep your efforts focused on the groups of people that are more likely to attend your show. If you target the wrong audience or go too broad with your targeted group, you could end up wasting precious funding that you may never get back.
As all of this is happening, you are going to continue to make new contacts. It is of the utmost importance that you make sure that you get them your contact information and that you in turn get theirs. You never know when someone's name will come up in the future and how they are going to be able to help you out. It is a daunting task to take all of this on by yourself, but stay focused and organized and you should be able to pull it off. - 18424
