Browsing For A Wonderful Film? Check Out These Impressive Film Commentary

By Noah Emerson

Each Hollywood producer has one aspiration in mind when they make a film. They want to put out a movie that is a massive hit that the public loves. A fantastic story line, some tremendous stars along with a couple of special effects and there you have the recipe for a huge box-office triumph. Or do you? Sometimes a film will have all of the theoretical crucial ingredients and it will still not succeed at the box office. There are no definite recipes to make a Hollywood chartbuster.

Lantana - Touching, adult storyline of relations obstructed by monotony, routine, and absence of articulation. LaPaglia plays a cop, whose marriage has stagnated, leading him to have an affair. In the mean time, he investigates the disappearance of a lady whose own marriage is in danger. The film is beautifully nuanced at every turn. Cast includes Anthony LaLaglia, Geoffrey Hurry, Barbara Hershey, Kerry Armstrong, Rachael Blake, Vince Colosimo, Daniela Farinacci, and Peter Phelps. (121 minutes, 2001)

Believe in me - Still one more'70s film that is all about drug troubles. Working gal Bisset finds herself completely dependant on speed while living in the East Village section of New York City. Cast includes Michael Sarrazin, Jacqueline Bisset, Jon Cypher, Allen Garfield, and Kurt Dodenhoff. (90 minutes,'71)

Sexy Beast - A retired British criminal, living the life in Spain, is visited by a violent gangster who desires him to work one more heist. Trendy, aggressive, current day gangster's film has tremendous acting containing a special performance by Kingsley as the hateful perpetrator. Cast includes Ray Winstune, Ben Kingsley, Ian McShane, Cavan Kendall, Julianne White, Alvaro Monje, and James Fox. (88 minutes, 2001)

The Last Time I Saw Archie - Webb's solitary try at comedy is less ludicrous than some of his more earnest films; a shame, since William Bowers' script-based on his own Army experiences had genuine potential, and Mitchum pleasingly underplays as the con guy. By the way, the genuine Archie Chamber sued for invasion of privacy. Cast includes Robert Mitchum, Jack Webb, Martha Hyer, France Nuyen, Louis Nye, Richard Arlen, Don Tangles, Joe Flynn, and Robert Strauss. (98 minutes,'61)

Slaughter's Big Ripoff - A murderer is still playing games with the Mafia in this dull action film. McMahon gives more effort to his role as the mob boss than it is worth. Cast includes Jim Brown, Ed McMahon, Brock Peters, Don Stroud, Gloria Hendry, Dick Anthony Williams, and Art Metrano. (93 minutes,'73)

Some of the greatest films of all time are the "oldies but goodies". If you wish to watch a terrific movie tonight, here is some information on some of the best motion pictures you may have never heard of. Check them out. Keep in mind you can download them more or less right away to your own computer in the coziness of your own house. - 18424
