Fool for Love: Sheppard's assessment of 2 ex-lovers who find that they are inextricably stuck together. The tough part is is creating some interest in these characters. Cast includes Sam Shepard, Kim Basinger, Harty Dean Stanton, and Randy Quaid. (106 minutes, 1985)
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Captivating premise of assembling infamous 19th century fictional characters, from Dr. Jekyll and Dorian Gray to Dracula's Mina Harker, whose assorted qualities combine to start a sort of Due process Group. The film is undone by lumpy storytelling, badly orchestrated action, and outsized, cartoonish visual effect patterns. Connery is charismatic as ever playing Allan Quatennain. Absolute Power: A long time criminal on his final robbery stumbles into an incredible situation. He witnesses a rape-murder. What is even more incredible is that the murderer is none other than the President of the United States. Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, and Laura Linney all star in this movie. Valkyrie: Colenel Claus von Stauffenberg is a loyal soldier who has watched his country go bad under the rule of Adolf Hitler. He eventually joins forces with the German Resistance, a civilian group dedicated to fighting Hitler. From this group a plan is hatched, called operation 'Valkyrie', designed to end Hitler's life.
